Aol, favourite places, email & ahhhhhh...& a Tutorial

Tearing hair out, jumping up and down and sorta screaming....I cant access my email through my provider aol and now all my favourite places have vanished, in fact everything has vanished.
So a google search provides a really techie answer which my brain wont compute (ah) at the moment
So I am CROSS with a big X
As respite from these problems, my husbands friend visited and sorted out how to sell on eBay.  Great I have been trying to teach my husband for years, will he listen to me........ but his friend oh yes its all working now...fume ...fume.  So whilst they were sorting it all out, I sewed and sewed whip stitch around a circle, my goodness it took over an hour to go round a three inch circle
So the weather didn't rain today whoo hoo, dried washing outside, what a bonus and at 4pm the sun came out, so we went into our town centre and what was the market place to support our son with his BOUNCY CASTLE business called BOUNCY WOUNCY
The place was full of street dancers, really loud thumping music, lots of stalls, this fabo castle & lots of people having huge fun.  The castles are really good and the kids were all having a great time
So I sat on a wet seat (well I would) in the sunshine and enjoyed the experience
On the stitchery front, I have been designing a flower vase with the embellisher machine for my Design to stitch class on Monday & a hanging for a class in July with silk rods & weaving (hmmm tempting??)  I have been making applique blocks inspired by Susan Briscoes fantastic Taupe book to make into a patchwork organiser using my ill gotten gains from the sneaky trip to Malvern
I surfed the net for some ribbon tape which was really expensive so I stitched my own.  £2.99 for one metre of what is India tape with a bit of printing on is extortionate in my view, then there is the issue of postage, on Etsy some of the places want £2.50 plus to post a metre (yard) of tape.  That made me mega cross.  First class postage is now 60p so where does the extra nearly 2 quid come from.
So make your own like this
1. Cut a piece of fabric 1 inch wide
2.  Score a line on the wrong side a quarter inch from each edge
3.  Using the iron press the seam towards each other
4.  Press from the front side, this makes 'bias' binding but its not bias as its on the straight
5.  Cut off twice the required length
6.  Fold the tape in half wrong sides together
7.  Whip stitch or ladder stitch the two pieces together
There your own tape, which matches your fabric and costs enth of a penny.  Okay does take a bit of time, but what is time when its your hobby, do it whilst watching rubbish on the box
Sorry cant really be bothered to take photos of each stage

There is a shopping bag on the floor next to me with croissants peeping out saying eat me, I shall have to go and put them away, my naughty husband bought them, I bought cherries and plums
croissants / plums
No contest, no wonder I am fat & diabetic and my knees are giving me gip
Have a lovely evening / day where ever you are, I hope the sun shines on some of your day and lifts your soul
Thanks for reading x

THE LIZARD ...TRANSFER PRINTING WITH STENCILS

Hi.  Back at last with the next part of the TRANSFER CRAYON WORKSHOP
STENCILLING WITH CRAYONS
What you need:
Transfer crayons
A commercial stencil or cut your own.  Sometimes you can get these for free on card magazines
Thin computer paper 80gsm
Masking tape or sellotape

The stencil of the lizard has been cut from MYLAR.  You can do this with a SCALPEL or with a soldering iron
You must leave BRIDGES or the stencil will fall apart

Tape your stencil onto the paper (remember it will transfer in REVERSE) WITH MASKING OR SELLOTAPE.

The Lizard picture above shows the use of the crayons.  First the GREEN.  You pull the crayon from the stencil over the edge onto the paper
Look at the claws.
I coloured int he body to look like scales

This picture I added the RAW SIENNA crayon & filled in the gaps left by the green
I coloured the eyes in RED
Here is the Lizard transferred onto polyester / cotton fabric.
How you do this is in the instructions on www.3creativestudios.com/blog  Follow the links to the FREE workshop
When you have viewed the workshop there are 2 workshops for sale on http://shelaghfolgate.bigcartel.com
Soon there will be an advanced workshop, I have held this back to allow you to buy your crayons / paints / dyes & play with them
The next part of this workshop will be with using TRANSFER PAINTS
So come back soon to view that
By the way my workshops now include 2 PDF files one with all the photographs & one with just the words to save you ink when printing
Enjoy your stencilling
Dont forget you can purchase products from http://www.colourcraftltd.com/

WHAT TO DO WITH THE COLOURED SHEETS

Hi, welcome back.  Here is the sheet from yesterday all scribbled with the 'slipper' texture

I have a huge flower PUNCH, any punch will do as I am using 80gsm ordinary computer paper, it punches really well

This shows the reverse of the punch, a flower & the MASK left from the punched sheet.  My punch likes to gobble up the paper when I try to remove it, so getting this mask is unusual.  Hopefully your punch wont do this, because there is something we can do with the mask.  Please return for that lesson :-)
I punched out 5 flowers, notice how the texture shows on the flowers, so all the silly scribbles that I did earlier have now provided a really nice effect.
I glued the flowers to another sheet of paper.  This base paper needs to be really thin, even finer than 80gsm is a big help when transferring
I also produced another sheet using the green & burnt sienna crayons
After colouring, I screwed it into a ball, quite a few times
Then flattened it out, by hand.  This gives a broken leaf vein type of image.  Now it is all soft it wont go through a punch
So I hand cut leaf shapes.  You could draw around a shape, but I have cut them freeform
I drew some stalks freehand from the flowers to ground them.  Then glued the leaves on.  Make sure that they look like they are growing.  This is a very simple image.  More advanced images can be constructed in this way.
Here is the image transferred to a cream 60% synthetic & 40% cotton fabric.  It has small holes in it & could be used for cross stitch, hand embroidery, machine embroidery or quilting.  It would make a lovely picture or book cover
All the details of how to transfer are on 3CS click this link, there is a FREE pdf file.  Further instructions are available from my shop
or my ETSY shop

USING TRANSFER CRAYONS TUTORIAL

AT THE TOP OF THIS POST IS AN IMAGE OF WINNIE THE POOH
I found a copyfree image & crayoned in the colours, exactly the same as with normal crayons, colour within the lines.  Then outline the edges with black.
  • The crayons can be shapened with a normal pencil sharpener or with a craft knife
  • Make sure that you get rid of any 'bits' of crayon from your image especially around the edges - remember that EVERYTHING - even little bits will transfer & large bits will make BLOBs
FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON 3CS ON HOW TO TRANSFER onto fabric

TRANSFER PRINTING - WITH RUBBINGS
  • Create a RUBBING BOARD.  TO DO THIS USE stiff CARD OR CARDBOARD. CUT a base board to the required size
  • CUT shapes - use basic geometric shapes to start with - out of thick stiff card.
  • GLUE these shapes to the base board
  • Leave to dry
  • REFER to the 3CS tutorial re types of paper to use for transfering or purchase my workshop
  • Lay a sheet of scrap paper onto a flat surface
  • Lay your rubbing board FACE UP on top of the scrap paper
  • Lay chosen transfer paper on top of the rubbing board & using masking tape secure the transfer paper to the scrap paper
  • The image shows the CRAYOLA crayons & the taped paper & rubbing board
For this tutorial I have chosen to use the following colours, in this order
BLUE random squiggles

PURPLE tighter squiggles

Black heavy squiggles, this is now defining the shapes

I then added YELLOW around the shapes

Below is the transferred image on the left hand side & the coloured paper (in reverse) on the right hand side

I have transferred to 100% polyester satin cream fabric
